8 gpu shark extreme 211/10/2023 I've done these tests:ġ) BIOS Setup (without updates, just right out of the box): just below 2hĢ) factory Windows 11 Home, but with sleep mode and display off disabled, nothing opened, no interaction with mouse/keyboard, no peripherals: just above 9hģ) custom Windows 11 Enterprise, but with sleep mode and display off disabled, nothing opened, no interaction with mouse/keyboard, no peripherals. Ok, so, a Dell XPS 9710 has a larger battery than the 9510, but at the same time it consumes more battery, because of a larger screen. I also know why battery life is bad in many cases, although to some extent of course. I've done more tests with this new device and can conclude that on the one hand I experience the same problem, while on the other hand I was able to get better results in some cases. I was able to return my XPS 9510 and instead I've purchased the XPS 9710. What times do you guys get? Tips? Advice? I know a lot of you have experienced bad battery life with Dell XPS, but of course I'm especially interested in Dell XPS 15 9510, although other experiences (13 and 17) are also useful! Also, if anyone has an idea what I could do to improve battery life without putting brightness on 10%, then please let me know! Perhaps Dell has an issue with a certain hardware component? Or perhaps a feature like Modern Standby doesn't work well? There is a possibility that there is a problem with my laptop which is not caused by the battery or the motherboard, but of course the question is: what? And is it true that my particular model should behave much better for battery life? Or is there a structural problem? Will a new attempt to buy the same model (or the same model, but with an OLED screen) give me a good working laptop with much better battery life?Īnybody out there with a Dell with somewhat similar specs? Which battery life do you get in BIOS Setup? And in Windows 10/11, while doing nothing (disable display out + sleep though)? However, Dell seems to give up and wants to give me a full refund now. A support guy told me a much higher battery life should be possible according to tests with a laptop of my particular model in a Dell lab. UHD+ (IPS 3840x2400, 500 nits) (in BIOS Setup: brightness is on 50% by default and I've not changed this)ġ year Premium Support with Onsite Serviceĭell has already changed my battery AND my motherboard, but the problem is still here. I've waited a few weeks before contacting support, because I wanted to install and configure everything first, including drivers, firmware, support software, etc. I've got the same problem with Windows 10. I've disabled the timeouts for the display going black and sleep mode, so the system keeps active (but while doing nothing). I've started measuring after a clean reboot and 5-10 minutes after logging on (only 1 Windows session active). To be clear: in Windows I'm literally doing NOTHING interactively: no browsing files, no browsing the web, no Office work, no games, no video/audio, no nothing! Not a single front-end application has been opened. CPU usage is low, sometimes moderate (in this installation CPU usage is a bit higher because there's a "lot" going on in the background, but no extreme stuff). Admitted, in this installation I've updated all my drivers. In a Windows 11 Enterprise installation with many applications installed and configurations done, I get 2 hour to 2 hour 45 minutes. In a brand new Windows 11 Pro installation, without installing the latest drivers from manufacturers' website (including Dell's), I get a weak 1hour 38 minutes! CPU usage is very low.In BIOS Setup, while doing literally nothing, I get 1hour/45 minutes (100 -> 0%).However, I've experienced a very low battery life since the beginning:
